Seed Cycling
This may be done by women of all ages – whether they are pre-menopausal, peri-menopausal, or menopausal. These seeds supply the fats and micronutrients a woman needs to make hormones and contain fiber that helps support the proper elimination of hormones from the body.
▪ Day 1-14: Flaxseeds & Pumpkin seeds (promote estrogen)
▪ Day 15-28: Sesame seeds & Sunflower seeds (promote progesterone)
▪ Directions: Consume 2 Tbsp of one seed or 1 Tbsp of each of the two seeds during each phase.
How this Works
Pre-menopausal women with regular cycles can follow their cycle.
Women with irregular or no cycles (including peri-menopausal and post-menopausal women) can follow the moon cycle (Day 1-14 = New Moon to Full Moon; Day 15-28 = Full Moon to New Moon).

How to Make Herbal Infusions

Making infusions might seem daunting at first but I promise that they are super easy! Once you do it once, you’ll get the hang of it and get it done in 5 minutes from that moment on.

Use Mason Jars– 1 quart is best but you can use larger jars for double batches.

Heat up 1 quart of water to near-boiling. As it’s heating up, add 1 whole cup of dried herbs to an empty quart Mason jar. See below for ideas on the herbs you can use.

Add the water to the herbs in your jar. Put a lid on it and let it sit anywhere from 4 hours to overnight.

Strain the herbs when the infusion is done. You can use the herbs for a second weaker batch or compost them! The weaker batch can be used for drinking, feeding plants, in a bath, or even as a hair rinse.

Enjoy your infusion! The ideal amount would be 2-4 cups a day (technically you’ll have just under 4 cups left depending on how much liquid your herbs absorbed).

It’s ideal to use 1 herb at a time, especially at first. Try one, see how you feel, and then determine if you want to attempt to mix herbs. Taste-wise they tend to be better on their own. Mixing them doesn’t always taste too good! You can rotate through them easily though- just make a few quarts of your favorite each week and enjoy 2-4 cups a day.

ALWAYS add salt to your tea for best absorption!

We are moving forward in the process of small but critical foundational steps and we are going to set in place those things that every person needs in order to heal. This includes hydration, diet and digestion, which we are covering in our first month together.

I have laid out the supplement schedule below and how to stagger each one per week. Here is the list so that you can order through Fullscript, Amazon or a place of your choice.

  • Sea salt and Dr. Berg's Electrolytes
  • Jarrow Mastic Gum
  • Jarrow Broccomax
  • NOW Brand Borage Oil
  • Biotics Research A.D.P.
  • Biopure Zeolite (okay to order from Amazon)
  • Thorne Biogest
  • Megasporebiotics

Your job for the next two weeks is this:

Drink your salt and electrolytes during the day every day. Having two 16 ounce salt/elec drinks each day would be optimal.

You have 3 supplements to take over the next two weeks until our next session. We are working to reduce H. pylori and using the ADP to help remove a small number of bacteria lower in the gut. The Zeobind will help bind to any toxins and will calm the gut.

I don't need you to keep a journal unless you want to, but what I do ask of you is to keep daily notes of any clues, changes, good or not, symptom changes and anything that relates to your health that I should know. You can also keep your notes in Practice Better if you prefer.

Practice carving out time from your day to honor your self-care, even if it is just a few minutes to think on the changes you might like to incorporate in the future.

Entering Session 2, we can see on the timeline that we have begun Week 4 supplements. Emma has been working on hydration and digestion before moving on to anything else. She is carefully monitoring her symptoms and how she feels each step of the way so that she can communicate back to me weekly what she is experiencing.

Starting with Week 1, Emma had the following symptoms:

Headache
Sinus issues, stuffy nose
Nausea
Bloating and gas
Constipation
Belching
Pain in joints and muscles
Stiffness
Severe fatigue
Brain fog
Anxiety
Mood swings
Hair loss

During Week 1, she succeeded in ordering all her supplements. She also began hydrating with 1 tsp of Sole water and 1 scoop of electrolyte powder. After three days, she increased her Sole water and electrolytes to twice per day. By Day 5, Emma sent me a note saying that she felt very hydrated and very well. She had noticed a decrease in her joint and muscle pain and stiffness, especially getting out of bed in the morning and even after workouts the following day. Although her headaches had been intermediate, she had not had one since beginning hydration and this correlated with a reduction in constipation. She has checked in each week and confirmed that she was still hydrating consistently and had only had one headache the whole time.

Week 2 began her work with any existing H. pylori and to reduce any overgrowth in both the spiral and coccoid forms. While working on this she did experience a decrease in fullness while eating and reduced belching and bloating. Constipation has eased up quite a bit and her nausea was gone by Day 2 and has not returned.

Week 3 did not produce any further reduction in symptoms but Emma was still feeling really good overall.

During Session 2, Emma and I discussed a more thorough view of digestion, how it works and what else to expect as she starts not only digesting her food but absorbing the nutrients she gets from eating. I have given her a copy of How the Body Works so that she can follow along and have a visual of each digestive step.

Because Emma is feeling better, she is encouraged to move more and is very excited about doing this. She is also seeing that her body DOES have the ability to heal and continues to create that belief of healing that keeps her on track with the Functional Wellness process.

Entering Session 3, we can see on the timeline that we have begun Week 5 and 6 supplements. Emma has been working on hydration and digestion before moving on to anything else. She is carefully monitoring her symptoms and how she feels each step of the way so that she can communicate back to me weekly what she is experiencing.

Starting with Week 1, Emma had the following symptoms:

Headache
Sinus issues, stuffy nose
Nausea
Bloating and gas
Constipation
Belching
Pain in joints and muscles
Stiffness
Severe fatigue
Brain fog
Anxiety
Mood swings
Hair loss

Now at the end of Week 6, her remaining symptoms include:

Bloating and gas - much less during the last week of ADP and Megasporebiotic use
Constipation - now rare, may depend on what she ate or hydration
Pain in joints and muscles - minimal
Severe fatigue - her energy has improved at least 50%
Anxiety - somewhat reduced
Mood swings - very reduced, feels more balanced
Hair loss - hard to monitor, feels much less is falling out

During Week 5, Emma finished all her supplements to address H. pylori and added Biogest to support her stomach acid and to keep any H. pylori overgrowth reduced to a commensal level. On Week 6 she also started Oregano oil in the form of Biotics Research ADP and quickly moved to 3 tablets. She did experience a bit of die-off and lethargy but quickly rebounded and noticed a big reduction in what was left of her bloating and gas. Emma is also using Megasporebiotic to support her bacteria levels and growth and Zeolite to help reduce any LPS created from eating or from ADP use.

During Session 3, Emma and I discussed all that she was experiencing and how her body was able to begin to heal because of the necessity of the foundational items being put into place first. Emma will continue to try and add some foods back in that she herself had removed due to gas and bloating and notify me of the results of doing that.

To continue to balance her body, Emma and I will be testing her hair for minerals, doing a urine iodine test and exploring copper in her blood testing. Healing the body is not just about removing symptoms...it is about finding balance with nutrients and minerals and maintaining them so that Emma can continue to stay in her healing environment for years to come.
